SLIPPERY ROCK—The Bloomsburg University field hockey team fell to Shippensburg University, 5-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship game. Despite three goals from Jamie Vanartsdalen (Philadelphia/Lower Moreland) in the first half, Shippensburg dug itself out of the 3-0 deficit to win its first PSAC title in school history. Ashley Watt score an unassisted goal with 5:50 remaining to win the game for the Lady Raiders. Watt had tied the game two minutes before to tie the game at 4-4. Shippensburg began its attack thirteen minutes into the second half, with a goal from Ashley Watt to narrow the Huskies' lead. Natalie Faith, just three minutes later, added another goal for Shippensburg to narrow the gap to 3-2. Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) scored for the Huskies to extend the lead to 4-2 off an assist from Venessa Witman (Oley/Oley Valley) with 13:58 left to play. The Lady Raiders didn't roll over as they rattled off three straight goals in the last thirteen minutes to win the title. Just 12 seconds after Kropa's goal, Kimberly Davies got the ball past Bloomsburg goalie Tracy Hudak (Sweet Valley/Lake-Lehman). Shippensburg trailed 4-2 until the last eight minutes of the game. The first half, Bloomsburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead on three goals from Vanartsdalen. She recorded three goals in ten minutes, while Kropa recorded an assist on Vanartsdalen's second goal. Shippensburg outshot the Huskies 23-7 in the game and also had the advantage in corners, 13-1. In goal, Hudak had seven saves for the Huskies.
